Volvo XC90 - Why you love yours!
OK, I have read tons of reports of why these are the "ones to avoid". Surely there are some good ones out there? Of the hundreds of complaints, there must be tens of thousands of good ones right? Normally people with great cars don't post comments when there isn't a problem. I know I normally come to the forums when I am looking for a solution to an issue.
THe XC90 was the SUV of the year once so it must of sold well. So I am starting a new list. Tell us if....
1) You've put tons of miles on your T6 without a transmission problem.
2) Your engine or suspension has never failed.
3) I can't believe that I .... and the car made it.
4) What else?
I'm sure you can think of other things as well.
I just wanted to see if there was another side to this story. Thanks.

Reason: Edited "T6" out of title... it will get more responses if it's not restricted to a particular engine.

Re: XC90 T6 - Why you love yours!
Hi, My XC90 D5 was the biggest lemon in the british isles in my view you can read some of my posts, but after thousands of pounds spent virtualy re-building her i have quite grown fond of my XC ever day i rub the dashboard and tell the bas...d how i have looked after her, and up to now touch wood she hasn't let me down since
but that shows you the worry that still lingers in the back of your mind "what next" quality car let down by heads buried in the sand (Volvo europe) but i like your question! come on guys defend your xc, scootay

Re: Volvo XC90 - Why you love yours!
This photo of the XC 90 wreck explains exactly why I love Volvos most. I have spina bifida and am a wheelchair user. My back and neck are still having issues from when I was hit from the side in my 1996 Nissan Sentra in May. The other driver was yakking on a cell phone and hit a VW Jetta and bounced off into me. I was stopped due to traffic ahead and the idiot driver thought he could make 3 lanes out of two. Both of my adopted sons also have spina bifida and Volvo saved their lives in crashes. And Volvos are the easiest vehicles to enter and exit when you are stiff legged.

Re: Volvo XC90 - Why you love yours!
Ok, the accident picture was the most compelling reason so far.
Still I am kinda concerned that more folks haven't posted stories.
Well I drove mine from California to Wyoming this summer. Car did amazing and we got about 20-21 mpg during the trip. It was the perfect tailgate picnic car at the base of the Grand Tetons. So far all is well. It just tipped 40k miles.
Ok, full disclosure. I bought it with 36k miles and the owner had just replaced the tranny. I was hoping that any tranny issues were resolved after that, but so far I haven't seen too much evidence of replacement trannys remedying the problem. I had hoping someone on this thread will calm my fears.

Re: Volvo XC90 - Why you love yours!
I've been hoping to see someone post here who has a 2.9T6 xc90 who hasn't had any transmission problems. It's kinda become an interest of mine. I've owned a 2006 2.5T AWD for 1 yr now and love it. I bought it from an independent used car dealer who won't sell '03,'04', '05 T6's. He's the one who steered me away from buying one in the first place. Very interesting story about the xc90/camaro collison though. I didn't think anyone would survive a 90 mph head-on, no matter what kind of car they were in.
Anyway, I occasionally search a couple of sites on the internet looking for used volvos. One pattern I've noticed is that all the '03, '04, and '05 xc90 T6's - and there are a lot of them for sale - seem to have 35,000 to 55,000 miles on them-- as if people are trying to dump them. Well, last night I saw an '04 T6 for sale with 125,000 miles on it. Maybe this one had a good transmission, which is why they kept it for a respectable amount of time--and mileage. Or Maybe not. Oh well, I tried. Come on you people with T6's, put a few happy posts here.

Re: Volvo XC90 - Why you love yours!
Just read a post on another web site where the owner of an '04 T6 xc90 with a 167,000 miles says he's still on his original problem-free transmission. There is hope for T6 owners afterall.

Re: Volvo XC90 - Why you love yours!
I bought a 2004 XC90 T6 just this past December with 127k miles on the odometer. At 130k, the transmission failed, and we just had it rebuilt at an Aamco center for about $3000. Unless the previous (2nd) owner was pulling my chain, he said he had never had an issue with the tranny, so if that was in fact the original transmission, I would say that 130k for a notoriously problematic transmission is pretty good. I would be very happy to get that kind of mileage out of the rebuilt tranny. I will monitor and service this vehicle religously and do not intend to put the vehicle under heavy load.
My wife loves the car, and it handles very nice on the highway. We hope to keep this car for a very long time.

Re: Volvo XC90 - Why you love yours!
I have an '04 t6 with 108k on it and I have not had one problem with it! Except for the third row seat going down! As far as the engine goes, runs as fine as the day I drove it off the lot!

FamHauler-
Hope you get 130,000 miles from your tranny rebuild. Don't know anything about Aamco-that's a good thing-but $3000 sounds pretty good for a rebuild. And I agree that the xc90 ride and handling is fantastic-- along with the cargo space and the safety level.
W-Driver-
Always great to hear a good T6 tranny story. Hope you get another trouble-free 108,000 miles.
