2000 V70XC - Idle Control Valve

Post by jonl »

Hiya,

Can someone tell me where I can find the idle control valve on my car. I have the engine compartment wide open to replace the PCV hoses and I just can't find the thing.

Thanks.
Thanks a bunch,
Jon

You should hear it. Turn the key on, but don't start the engine. It will be kinda buzzing in the engine compartment.

If he's doing the PCV job, the battery is probably out. I tried looking on VADIS but couldn't find the darn thing...

On the '97 850 GLT it's under the throttle cover near the Schrader valve of the fuel rail. On the butt-end is a wire harness and on the other (is that the head-end?) are two hoses.

Here's the butt-end of it.

Ecbsykes is right, my battery is out of the car.
As a matter of fact, I'm cleaning all kinds of things.

Removed: fuel rail, intake manifold and ETM, electric cooling fan, intercooler hoses, air intake to turbo (w/PTC), the PCV system, air box, upper radiator hose... I think that's it.

Now, it's really easy to view and work on what's left attached to the car. I was going to look underneath around the transmission but it got dark and the mosquitoes were hungry. Plus, I want to finish cleaning things up so I can put the car back together. Waiting on some parts but hope to be driving again this weekend.

Ecbsykes, would it be possible for you to see if you can locate it by listening to your engine compartment?

Thanks to everyone,
Jon

It should look similar to the above picture. I just went out to listen to my car, and I definitely heard the buzzing. It was hard to pinpoint, but definitely in the area under/near the manifold. Sorry I can't be more precise.

Can anyone find it on VADIS for a 2000 XC? I was unable to locate it...

I don't believe our cars ( I too have a 2000 V70XC, black exterior, beige interior) have an IAC (Idle air control). We have the "technology advanced" Electronic Throttle Module. The computer controls the idle speed right at the throttle body itself. To me, that buzzing sound seems to be either the turbo control valve, located next to the air cleaner box, or the throttle body itself. Either way, it all seems to be working as it should. I'm a firm believer in " If works, leave it alone. Why fix something that isn't broke." Although, I do believe in cleaning the throttle body once a year. Just did mine two weeks ago. R/ Allen

Thanks for your opinion, Allen.

I was starting to draw the same conclusion. Since my engine compartment now has the room of an early 1970s car (very few hoses) I was having a hard time understanding why I couldn't see the thing.

I've heard the buzzing in my car too but have only noticed it after turning off the warmed up engine. Just like Ed, I'd traced the sound to the area of the ETM (that advanced technology thing you were talking about  ) but since it's buried under the manifold, I couldn't be sure.

Assuming it's the ETM, I wonder what it's doing when buzzing?
Thanks a bunch,
Jon

resurrecting old post...I too have a 2000 xc70. The idle on start-up seems to "surge " to about 2000-2500 rpm and after about ten seconds goes back to pretty normal idle speeds...maybe slightly high. It is harder to start than it has ever been as well. So:

1. is there an IAC valve on these
2. sounds to me like it may need a good cleaning....opinions?

will post in main section as well ....
