Exhaust problem- 850 se Sedan

Post by poroman »

I have a exhaust sounding leak comming from the system. It sounds like its comming near the front half. I think it might be the exhaust manifold gasket or the front flange. Is there a way to identify the problem??

Well, you can get a longer piece of rubber tubing, like vacuum tube, and run one end to your ear, and probe around with the other, but be careful. You should hear the sound get louder when you get close to the leak. Use caution not to get anything tangled up in moving parts.

You'll have to have the engine running while doing this, so have a safe partner. Use it like a stethoscope.

Good luck.

Dump soapy water on it and watch for bubbles. Or put it up on ramps and hold the back of your hand to it and feel for warm air. I suspected the same places on were leaking, only I couldn't find anything. I tightened up any and all bolts I could reach - at the exhaust manifold and turbocharger on mine, and the smell I had been getting seems to have gone away.
