ambient temp sensor showing whacked values...

Lent the car to a friend for a week, but I'm sure he didn't do anything wrong!

The ambient temperature LED on the dash says 32F half the time with the little snowflake next to it...then the next day it says the correct outside temp.

Is there a common failure trend with the sensor, computer or wiring I should know about?

or is this something that really has not been seen in much?

You may just need a new sensor - they do go bad after a while.

Either a sensor or a software update. My 04 S60 had this issue and a software update fixed it. Also, my trip computers would reset to 0 every time i hit 663 miles on them. This was also fixed with the software update.

Two questions...

1. Are such software updates that are obvious faults of the design free...or will I wind up paying $120 for an hour diagnostic at the stealer?

2. Where is the sender unit located on this vehicle (2001 V70). I know most are in the front lower intake, but I have not familiarized myself with this car enough since it's has been just running so well!
