Original ETM indicators?

Post by emk »

I have a 99 S80 T6. I've been researching all this ETM stuff of late. My car 'surges' regularly as I'm braking to a stop, but it doesn't display the idle 'hunting' problem, or anything else to indicate a suspect ETM at the moment.

I had a look yesterday at the label on my ETM. There is no yellow sticker (which from research would indicate a replaced unit). The only thing I can see is a small green dot on the label (perhaps a permanent marker dot of some description). Anyone know what I'm talking about?

I viewed that internal Volvo memo that stated a 94% failure rate on the ETM's at 100K miles. Am I one of the fortunate few that may have a decent unit? My car has 197K kms. I have had the car since 146K kms.

Any takers on this one? The idle has been hunting lately, might need to clean the sucker...

Well this past Sunday I changed out my spark plugs. With some of the intercooler hoses/pipes out of the way for that service, I decided to take a stab at cleaning my ETM. Boy was it cruddy. My idle has been rough lately. Idles like a dream after getting cleaned.

I'm still confused about the green mark on the label of my ETM. Definately no yellow mark sticker in sight. Should've taken a pic.

Insight anyone?
