lower thermo housing '94 960...arggh!

Post by teddrummond »

Anyone ever replaced the lower thermo housing on a 960? I cracked mine while trying to coax a stubborn torx bolt out during a thermostat replacement.

I pulled the power steering and alternator already and it looks like the whole accesory mounting bracket needs to come off to get that bottom bolt in (I drilled the old one off). Simply not enough clearance to get a new bolt to thread straight, much less put a driver on it. I have thought about going with a shorter bottom bolt.

Any suggestions? I'm almost there with accessory removal, but the a/c is such a bear I thought i'd check with you all first.

Any help is much appreciated.

Regards,

Ted

I haven't had this problem and, by the lack of replies, assume no one else has.

My friendly Volvo man muttered something about heavy handed DIYers but said that you are on the right track. Remove as much as possible but do not use a shorter bolt.

Bill,

Thanks for weighing in on this. I've resigned myself to this process as penence for my errent heavy handedness. Just wanted to step back and assess before continuing on blindly (as that's what got me into this mess in the first place). Will post an update when things are back together.

Ted
