2003 v70 making a whining sound from engine

Post by v70 dude »

Another perplexing issue has arose from my good ol' V70. Let say I run it up to 1500rpm (in park), now I never let up off the pedal, I just hold it at that one spot. The RPM goes up then after a second or two it will drop down 500 or more. What ever the problem is, I feel it is the reason for the high pitched whining sound from the engine, and it sounds like it is near the alternator. I'm still having a problem with the car dying on me when I make a left turn (most of the time its a left turn). Brake stop working as well as the steering but, she fires right back up and I'm off.

has the throttle body ever been cleaned? If not, start there.

This may or may not be the problem, but it is easy to check...While the engine is running and the noise is present, remove the dipstick...If the noise stops, you have a breather box problem...I don't know what makes the noise but have heard that there is a bladder in the breather box that causes this...It results in positive crankcase pressure instead of negative and as a result oil starts to collect in the breather box...A PVC overhaul seems to be the answer...

Thanks guys, I will do all of those, or at the very least check. I hope that cleaning the throttle body isn't a problem. I guess that would be a garage issue or dealer.
