Last night I was traveling down the highway going somewhere between 60-65 when the guy in front of me slammed on his breaks. I swerved to miss him and slammed on my breaks. I spun out and almost hit the guard rail... and then my car stalled and will not start back up. Any ides...
We tried jumping it, removing the battery, and refreshing my fluids. Any advice?
Thanks.
Sudden stop killed my 97 850 glt!

Welcome to the forum - sorry it's under these conditions...
Does the starter spin but the engine doesn't catch?
Is the CEL on, and if so, can you pull any codes?
Have you done any maintainence to the car recently?

The car will start if ya give it part throttle but shuts back off immediately like it's running out of gas, fuel pump is humming like it should and we don't know what the fuel pressure is yet but we are at least getting fuel to the fuel rail (pushed in the release on the valve with a small screw driver). I got it started and could keep it running by pumping the peddle but it wouldn't open up or catch and it would pop almost like a small backfire and sputter the whole time and as soon as ya quit pumping it she'll shut right down......do the injectors fire or "turn on" after it first starts? What I'm getting at is it possible to start the engine by pumping the fuel peddle without the injectors firing? If so that is what is happening and I need to see why the injectors aren't firing if not I would then say that the injectors are firing but maybe not getting enough fuel or pressure.
sound like a relay got shook up or the batt. moved and loosened a cable
try bridging the contacts for the fuel pump relay in case it went bad
look at the batt. cables carefully, both ends. what is the batt voltage?
good luck and keep us informed!

battery voltage is good now..(he drained it by continuosly trying to start it over and over) Only trouble code that I got was something about "secondary air intake system malfunction" or something like that..... What about a relay for the actual injectors? I can hear the pump itself running.........

It sounds like you’re getting fuel. I’d be surprised if a violent stop would affect the relay.
Have you checked the spark plugs and the throttle body? Pull the hoses off and give it a good cleaning, as well as the idle control valve.
The secondary air intake system, or SAS, is part of the emissions system and wouldn’t cause your problem. If you have emissions testing in your area, you’ll have to get that fixed to pass.

Could be your Cam Position Sensor just happened to go out after your stop. Mine went suddenly after driving fine. Had very similar symtoms, my car would crank like crazy try to start when the battery got low then pop as if a back fire just as you described. I have a 94 850 Turbo. Popped in a new Bosch CPS (about $135.00 from Pelican Parts) started right up.
