key will not turn past position 1

Thanks to MOM for the info on this subject. I had the same happen with my V70 last week. I ordered a new assy via my dealer and it was available for collection within 24hrs.Cost £180. Using the Haynes manual it was simple enough to remove covers & wiring plugs. Being autoshift I had to remove the gearshift interlocking cable(prevents you from taking it out of park).With the cable removed you can manually move the cable (with the key i position 1) & move the gearshift to neutral. The most difficult part is drilling out the 2 fixing screws.Be careful not to drill into the steering column brkt.Access for a drill is tight. As mom said use a right angled drill if you have one. Approx. 3hrs work.
