J Hose Leak

Post by Esnoyer »

I have had an ongoing problem with my Check Engine light coming on from time to time,I had a new volvo gas cap installed
after avolvo dealers computer showed a valcum leak.eack time the light comes on it still showes a valcum leak...
Dealer did a smoke test and NOW says its the J hose and in order to replace it the exaust system must be lowered,a pan
as well ,all of this to replace a $0.25 hose ,Oh yes plus hose clamps..THEY only want $329.00.. Great VOLVO design..
Has anyone replaced this hose ,any ideas??

Are you sure the 01 doesn't use a J-hose? Ipd sells one for the 01....
Anyways, here is a link to a video explaining where the J hose is on an older model, ( but I believe it's still in the same place. It helps to remove the fuel filter, you will have more access to the hose. A local dealer wanted to charge me $380 for this job. Got it from ipd for $20...

As I said, I didn't THINK a P2 used a J hose, however if yours has one, an S70 is about a 15+ minute job to change it over...and I can't believe a P2 is a 2-3 hour job!!!
I will be chatting with my mechanic tonight so if you can hold off (and if I remember to ask him), I'll let you know the skinny

My car is a 03 V70 the hose is in a location that would only allow for a childs hand to get into, maybe a set of tongs or long needle nose pliers?? I checked out Utube, wish mine was that easy.
