Cruse control issue

Post by 19woodstock50 »

I have a 2001 S60 with a cruse control issue. Engage the cruse and it will work fine then it will release and you can not reset it. If you turn off the cruse switch and back on still it will not work. Shut off the switch drive for 10 to 15 minutes and try it again and it will work for hours (sometime) other times it will fail again in minutes. Any clues?

I'm sorry it took so long for someone to respond to your post. Have you sorted the issue yet? Regardless, in a few hours I will post "brake pedal position sensor" removal/replacement instructions of what I did to fix mine. Be prepared to spend some more money on your beloved volvo

That's EXACTLY the same problem I have been having!

Not only can I NOT set the cruise at times, but I cannot even turn the cruise ON (so that I see the "CRUISE" illuminated in the Tach window.)

Shutting the engine off and then restarting it usually will allow the system to function again, at least for a while!

Is there a mechanical plunger in the sensor, or is it a Hall Effect, or some other "electronic" sensor (rather than a mechanical sensor)?

What happened to using the good old brake light switch to control the cruise? Why make it so darned complicated?

It mounts to the brake booster, so my guess is that it has something to do with the traction control. It seems to be a mechanical plunger, however the sensor's casing cannot be opened.
