Fuel Gauge gone crazy

Post by tom39 »

2006 / S60 / 2.5t / 4-door

The fuel gauge on my S60 went crazy today. All of the sudden the gauge read empty, the miles to empty read ---- but the low fuel light did not come on. I thought this was odd since I had only driven 260mi on the tank and I should of had at least 1/3 of a tank or more of fuel. To be on the safe side I pulled in a gas station and was only able to put in 12 gal. Further observations of the situation revealed a drastic change in the "miles to empty" display read-out, which fluctuated in the range of 405mi to empty to 380mi to empty for a little while, before finally reading --- mi to go.

My first guess would be the fuel sending unit. But before pull it, I thought it might be a good idea to get another opinion.

Any Ideas?

Thanks
TOM G.

Sounds like a safe assumption.
