Best service manuals for Volvos?

Post by Paul93-850 »

I realize that some manuals are better than others. However, I've never purchased a service manual for my Volvo and was wondering what people feel to be the best manuals in general for Volvos and for the 850 line?

Are the usual suspects any good? Haynes, Chiltons, etc? When I had a VW camper van, I bought the VW service manual that the VW mechanics used: thick, comprehensive, expensive, and worth every dollar. Does such a manual exist for Volvos?

My searching didn't turn up much in the archives. If this thread has been rehashed ad nauseum, please accept my apologies as you send me the url. ;)

tnx,

Paul

I have the Haynes manual for my 850. It's OK. It really isn't too terribly descriptive about some things, but I've heard that the Chiltons is worse. I mostly use VADIS for that type of stuff. It is Volvo's official electronic workbook for their cars.

I have to agree about the Haynes and Chilton's manuals. I have the Haynes one for my '93 850, but because the book tries to be everything to all model years, and there are distinct differences between them, there tend to be inconsistencies throughout the book. I use it more as a guide than anything else. Personally, I don't have the VADIS disc's, but do plan on getting them at some point.

Turbo, where did you pick yours up? I've seen them listen on Ebay, but I don't know if I trust them or not...

I eventually found a Haynes manual specific to the S70/V70/C70. I think it's a great manual. But I had to buy a european edition. I don't think there is a US edition in print. I found it on some website here in the us by doing some google searches.

You just have to translate bonnet to hood when you're reading it!
