Yes, it is possible for the engine oil to mix with the transmission fluid. There is an oil cooler and transmission cooler built into the radiator that if it cracks, the fluids can fix together. You should also check your engine coolant and make sure it is not getting in there.

That sounds messy and I have never heard of grey oil either.
You can buy a oil cooler from the FCP guys above me. I used there website and its spot on for price and speedy posting.

Life would be enjoyable if it wasn't so painful to live.

They're on opposite sides of the radiator though...so no. Plus, this is an NA engine, so it doesn't have an oil cooler. Usually it's the coolant and oil/ATF that mix, which is very bad news. There is an oil cooler and transmission cooler built into the radiator that if it cracks, the fluids can fix together. You should also check your engine coolant and make sure it is not getting in there.
I'm not sure what would make it turn grey though.

Have you checked the code for the flashing arrow? It would be worth a shot to drain and fill the transmission using something like 25 quarts. After you fix the contamination issue (if thats the case) with the radiator of course.
ok today in day light and checking car has trans cooler lines only no oil lines.coolant on the low side of ok clean and green.i think car has 2 problems (3)realy 1using oil ?pvc ?will check this weekend.2gray looking trans fluid =red trans+green coolant +yellow dipstick =dark out poor light sorry today fluid is milky looking and son said he added coolant last week.3 don't know anything about the newer volvos in the early 80's i worked at a dealer and that is why i was happy my 16 year old son liked this car.i ordered a radiator today will change this weeked and flush trans
well we replaced the radiator, flushed the trans every thing was looking good until we drove for about 2 miles and the light started to flash agin.i will check for codes when i get the coolant leak fixed on my truck.driving car the trans fluide was a little cloudy maybe just needs more flushing i hope

you can check the codes right there under the hood using jumper in the A-1 terminal, and pressing the little black button and counting the flashing red light. 3 digits, like 3-2-2. A quick search on checking codes will give you better details

If fluids are mixing, don't delay. On my son's '94 non-turbo 850 that's what happened. When the transmission finally died, they took it apart and turned it over and green fluid came out of it. We put a used/good transmission in it and are using a separate tranny cooler and not running the tranny fluid through the radiator anymore and it works fine again...but when it died, it died from a catastrophic, sudden failure.
