replaced alternator - now bat light on- maxima

Post by raquette »

This is not a volvo question but close- for a 2000 maxima, plus this forum has been so helpful to me on my v70 with great solutions that work!

replaced alternator (with an AAP rebuilt) on the maxima. the engine/brake light now comes on at fist morning startup say for 1-2 minutes, then goes off. checked all connections, grounds, battery, sounds like alternator may be weak at cold temps?

If I have it checked at a garage, by the time I get their, light is off. any suggestions?

Take it to any chain auto parts store and have them test it. They can load bank test the alternator in the car.

Your battery is likely not holding a charge. Previous advice is correct. Have it tested.

If the battery is not holding a charge how could he start the car?

I think the self exciter wire is not connected under the main power wire on the alternator?
Life would be enjoyable if it wasn't so painful to live.
