960 antenna replacement

I want to install a new antenna mast in my 960 sedan (the toothed plastic strip broke). I can get the mast out but there is still a good 1 1/2 feet of the plastic strip still in the motor somewhere. The motor appears to be a sealed unit, so does anyone know how to get the broken piece out?
