I'm very new to this kind of stuff but I am completely obsessed with working on stuff including my car. I have a spectre filter, 12000k lights, a blue engine cover, powder coated rims with red pinstripe, and no exhaust... I have a 2003 V70 2.4 non-turbo. simplest of the simple. I would like your personal opinions on what exhaust to purchase in order to achieve the deepest most throaty sound. Is it necessary to know the dimensions of my exhaust? cost? emmissions? i have O2 sensors what do i do with them? where do i go to get it done?? and get it done right so nothing is loose and everything is nice and tight to my frame? I have no clue what to do and would like some serious question answering... if you feel i need to know things that i havent asked for here please do not hesitate to tell me...
THANKS!!

V70 Exhaust Question
Not sure about non-turbos, but have you considered performance manifolds from the engine? Do you have to pass emissions in your state/province? If you don't have emissions testing, you can get away with running straight to your cat-back and bypassing the catalytic converter. Also, make sure you are using a performance airfilter and upgraded sparkplugs. This will help with the raw engine sound.
For the deep throaty sound, you can research some performance resonators that come in with most of the cat-backs. There are quite a few forums that deal with Volvo exhaust upgrades, albeit, turbo models.

I cannot seem to find any performance manifolds that fit my v70... should i take one from another model? friends tell me its not necessary... I cannot run a straight pipe as i do have emissions testing... and I also cannot find a complete system for my car... I have a cone filter but im going to get a short ram with an additional intake from under the car... lastly... what kind of spark plugs?

You're really wasting a lot of your time and money
Sell the car and buy a turbo
You will spend a ton of effort and gain all of maybe 10-15 hp, nothing you will really notice.
Sell it and buy a turbo wagon

Does that mean you are listening here or are you going to waste a ton of money?zooplane wrote:alright thanks.
NO ONE makes any performance parts for this engine.
It was not meant to be modded.
As said, you can spend $2000 and the most you MAY gain is 10-15 HP, that's it.
Someone in Europe built an 850 track car out of an NA. he spent literally thousands of dollars on a specific built track engine, that would not pass any emission test in the world!
He got about 240-250 hp, about the same as a STOCK T5 turbo

JRL is right about performance, but if you still want to get that sound, you already have the air filter, just get the hottest plugs that are recommended for your engine and maybe add a cheap DP with a racing cat that is proven to pass emissions at the pipe. You will still have less than $1K in her even with your airbox. That is my 2 cents!

where can i find out which plugs are best and hottest? whats a DP and like a jetex cat? i also removed the airbox and put in a yakimoto pipe with a techtronics coupler and gained a little horse for cheap!! keeps it cooler and running better...
