tailgate lock will not disengage?

Post by chairexpert »

Hi,
I have a 2006 V70 and the tailgate opens sometimes, and sometimes it doesn't. As of late, it has not opened at all. I disassembled the tailgate cover and the latch seems to be working okay, but the lock will not disengage? Suggestions Please.

thank you,
Gabe

Gabe,

I normally don't reply to the board because I've never anything useful to add. This may be one of those times.

I have a 2005 XC70 and it was doing the same thing. I did the same thing you did - it looked like the mechanism worked just fine.

Out of frustration, I just shot some lubricant up into the latch - and I mean just up around everything with the door fully assembled. I just used the little plastic straw (I think it was WD-40), shot it around where I could get inside, and let the excess drain out and carefully wiped everything clean.

The lock works great. You probably already tried this, but sometimes I look over the really simple things.

I have done the same thing with locks on my BMWs and it helps. Good idea W! I would start with some penetrating fluids and them move to white lithium grease once you get it open.

Check for broken wiring at the tailgate hinges.
