V50 d5 road noise

Post by alibali1 »

HI, I recently bought an 08 V50.I am being driven round the bend with a "whine" from the rear end. Took it to volvo who told me it was tyre noise as there was some uneven wear on rear tyres. A friend subsequently told me it was unlike any tyre noise he has heard.Any one have any ideas? Car has done 80K with fsh.

Welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.

Did your friendly Volvo dealer tell you how uneven wear on the rear tyres would make a noise? If one is worn more than the other that shouldn't make a noise. If the tyres are wearing unevenly across the tread then the cause is most likely mechanical.

Take the car into one of the big tyre houses such as ATS, Kwik-Fit or National for an independent check on the tyres. They will be able to tell you if the noise is tyre related.
