Just about wrecked the Volvo...

Post by jblackburn »

I was out on the Interstate tonight coming back from a meeting in the pouring rain, and a deer ran out right in front of me at 60 mph. I barely saw him and my instincts took over, stomping the brakes and swerving hard to the other side of the road. I missed him by all of mere inches - the car behind me spun out entirely and was facing the other direction, but I'm sure I would have been dead or in seriously bad shape right now had I been in my old Honda - this deer was MASSIVE.

First time I've ever had to react quite THAT quickly to an emergency situation that I didn't see coming. Props to Volvo even 12 years later for their awesome handling/braking characteristics. And I think my recent purchase of new brakes and tires paid off tonight too

PS if your ABS module doesn't work, FIX IT! It helps, trust me.

I am glad to hear you are ok.

This is exactly the reason to do your own work on your car. Its wonderful when it all works properly. I bet the money
you saved doing it yourself helped to pay for the new tires and parts that helped you.

Mine's still very much alive, thanks in part to a good performance on its half and quick instincts on mine. These Yokohama tires have AMAZING traction in rain. Whatever kind of car behind me swerved, they were very lucky not to hit the guardrail in the middle; I just saw them spin out and come very close.

It's definitely deer season though, I've seen a couple along the sides of the roads mutilated pretty bad.

Wow! Super glad you're alright! I've always been scared of deer and other animals when driving at night or in rain. I've seen what they can do to a car, and usually that's the end of it for the vehicle sadly.
