2002 V70 XC key cylinder lock
I have a 2002 V70 XC when I turn it off the key will not turn all the way until the battery runs down. The lock on the shift lever works, it will not let you shift unless your foot is on the brake. However, the key cylinder acts like it is not in park. Is there another solenoid on the cylinder that would be causing the problem and if so, how do you change it?

Does it do the same thing in neutral? I assume that there are two different solenoids one for the cylinder and one for the shifter. If you can take the key out with the car in neutral then it is the switch for the park position is broken.
I don't think there is another solenoid. There is a shift interlock cable that runs from the shifter over to the ignition switch, many times this cable will get stickied up from stuff being spilled down in the console. But, the usual symptom of this is the key won't come out of the ignition when turned off. The cable might be worth checking and the lock cylinders have been known to go bad as well.

I gave the shifter handle a couple of medium taps with my hand and the key would come out and works fine now. As posted, the cable from the shifter to the steering column can get gunked up and not fully allow the key to turn completely to the off position.
