C70 Door wont latch

Post by dj5150 »

passenger side just bounces back, will latch only if you hold it against the body and hip check it. embarrassing with the chicks. Is the latch/lock mechanism adjustable?

not if the chick is between you and the car ;)

Yes it is adjustable, like the chick, you have to figure out if it is lose or parts broken inside.

I sometimes use a screwdriver shaft to push the mechanism in and out to see if it is catching or something has broken or gone out of alignment.

It could mean you have to replace the mechanism, but have a close look to see if you can find the issue.

Also check your hinge bolts on the door in case they are loose and causing the door to be misaligned.

nice!
yes I will poke around in there again, the "thing" that rotates up and down inside the door what ever the hell you call it is much looser on the pas side than the drivers. so if the whole mechanism slides fore and aft I presume I can pull the door panel and move it?

BTW- THANK YOU to all the experts who so kindly have helped me here, money is tight and volvo mechanics charge a lot which I do not have a problem with but again.......bank account is hurtin!

you might not have to remove the door panel as there are two screws right there on the side.

sounds like it needs some lube. Really, I would hose down the the part that rotates (towards the axle it pivots on) with some WD-40 and work it back and forth to see if it loosens up. It sounds like some gunk has built up over the years and it needs to be worked out. After the WD-40 I would go with some white lithium grease into the same area and then clean up all the over spray.
