Slow remotes, keyless entry

Post by georgegrimm »

Hi, I've read everybody's posts on keyless entry problems. I very much appreciate you sharing your advise. However, my issue has not been address. I think it's important. My sister has a 2000 cross country and is having the same problem: I have to press my romote 6 to 10 times before it will work. I've replaced the battery, no affect. So tell me about the receiving device that picks up the signal from the remote. Does the receiver pick up the command from the remote and then actuate the main relay for all the door locks? My key actuates all the lock as it should; so, I think the main relay is ok. The receiver is located behind the glove box. Why would it start to work poorly; this seems to be a common problem from all I read. And my sister's 2000 Cross Country is having the same problem-slow response to signal. Is there a relay inside the receiver? Why would the receiver become less sensitive with time? Do connections get dirty? sounds like a relay inside the receiver is getting dirty. Any way has anybody had one apart? I hate to just buy one, and replace it. I've had only bad experiences doing that. The article on the ABS module was a God send. That's what I am looking for. Thanks, george

Slow? That sounds kind of odd. Usually, they work or they don't.

I'd consider the remote. If the buttons have had a long life, they may be on the way out.
Try ALL the buttons and see what you get. That may give you a few more clues.

There's not much you can do about that unless you're really good with very small soldering irons.
There are 4 identical push button switches in the fob and a guy could swap the Lock/Unlock
switches with the Panic and Trunk buttons. That assumes that it IS the remote.

As for the receiver, swapping that in a '98 may be a problem. It takes a dealer connection to
program remotes into the receiver, and it may be needed for a receiver swap as well. Not sure...

BTW, the receivers in 98, 99 and 00 V70's live on top of the guage cluster.

how close are you to the car when you do this.

One thing which will amuse your friends is put the remote on your chin (no im not kidding) and try it.. is there a difference?

I do this when i am far away from my car and it always works oddly enough.. extends the range.

How many remotes do you have and is it the same as all the remotes?
