Boosting antenna strength

Post by DawnK31 »

Can anyone give me tips on how to boost the antenna strength in my 2000 Volvo S70?

The antenna is a copper foil loop antenna etched onto one of the windows...If the foil gets scratched it cuts the circuit and radio response will be affected...Check it very closely for scratches or breaks...There are repair kits sold by Volvo, some after-market stores, and Radio Shack...It consists of a high copper content paint that you paint across the gap...I don't know of any booster amplifier working in the RF range for auto radios...Usually the window foil is for AM only and FM is handled by the car's wiring harness...I assume that is what Volvo does, but I am not sure...

Many of the stock Volvo radios have a feature called "Diversity Tuning" that uses two antennas.
It looks at the strength of each many times a seconds and chooses the strongest.
The Sedans use a mast for the primary antenna and a strip in the back window
that looks like a defroster wire for the secondary antenna. Usually works well.

If someones been monkeying around with the radio
or some other parts of the car, stuff can happen...

So...First, a couple questions:
What kind of problem are you having?
Is this a stock radio?
If so, Which model?
If it's not the stocker, who installed it?

What kind of problem are you having? It only seems to be getting two channels, when you scan sometimes it finds other stations and other times it doesn't find anything.
Is this a stock radio? It is the stock radio
If so, Which model? The car is a 2000 Volvo S70, I'm not sure what model the radio is but I can tell you it has a tape and CD player, if that helps.
