New thermostat not fitted

Post by precopster »

My id photo says it all. During the diagnosis of an overheating issue on my 93 Model 960 last year I supplied a Volvo specialist repairer in Melbourne with a new thermostat:
D& L Automotive, 72 Railway Road, Blackburn in Melbourne, I got the car back with the hollowed out thermostat you see and he swore it was OK, even though I mentioned to him later that the car was running too cool during freeway use.

The repairer billed me for a replacement engine with an old water pump, numerous leaks and a rental bill for a hire car after taking three weeks to perform this "MIRACLE"

He stripped three or four of the cam cover bolts resulting in a constant stream of annoying oil leaks on my driveway (I retapped these to a larger size myself)

He fitted both of the rear cam seals by clamping the cam cover down on both rear cam seals, instead of fitting them with a driving tool, resulting in skewed seals. Both leaked until I lifted the cam cover and fitted new ones.

He neglected to top-up the auto transmission fluid which, after three months of use, self destructed. The fluid level was checked before it was taken to him for repair and there were no leaks so I can't see how the level dropped to well below the low level.

The earth lead from the battery to the chassis was left loose, resulting in a repeated flat battery. (the whole engine loom was changed with the replacement engine, bad battery terminals and all)

Also he used incorrect bolts on the crank cover plate which allowed a stray fan belt to wrap itself around the crank resulting in 24 bent valves and another repair bill.

And to top it all off the repair bill was over $5K

Now that I've vented I strangely feel much better.

I should have taken this guy to a small claims court, however I had no time for this and income to regain.

Last year I sold 2 refurbished ETMs to him. He didn't even remember me.

This year his repair shop closed as did a final chapter in poor Volvo repair in Melbourne.
