Control Arm Replacement Help

Post by yojaywuzup »

Hello All,

I am in the process of replacing the front passenger side control arm and cannot get the bushing bolt off. I sprayed everything with PB Blaster prior to starting and the nut for the bushing came off without a problem. The bolt on the other hand would not move. I tried using a cheater bar on it to see if it woould budge and it cracked the craftsman socket I was using. I switched to an impact socket and the bolt stripped. Is it supposed to be this hard to loosen? I tried to tap it out from the other side, but the bolt would not budge either. This bolt isn't threaded into the other side is it? Any assistance you guys can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks,

Jay

It is more than likely seized to the subframe area there. It sounds like you may need a little help from a torch. Heat that sucker up after soaking with PB. I would try to break the bolt loose by turning with a wrench or ratchet. With some heat I think either would break it free.

I put the torch and some PB Blaster to it, but once I brought in the 3lb hammer and the socket on an impact extension, it gave in fairly quickly. Thanks for the advice.
