Can I use 17" wheels from a V70 on My 2005 XC70

Post by movmedia »

I have a 2005 XC70. 80,000 miles. Live in Colorado at 8,000 feet. My wife is begging for better traction on snow and ice.

So, I am looking for a set of wheels and studded snow tires. Found a set of 17" aluminum wheels from a V70 with 225 45 17 road tires on them: goodrich sv308.
Wondering if these wheels and tires will work properly on the XC70 for summer driving ?

If so, I will put a studded snowtire on my original 16" wheels. I'd appreciate your comments.
thanks

Sure, but it will look pretty darn DUMB
Have you any idea the amount of air space you will have from the tire to the fender?
Probably over 3"!
A friend of mine just did this (with 245/45/17s on PEGS) and until he lowers it (which he plans to do), it is the stupidest looking XC on the planet, besides your handling will be pretty strange to say the least!
Mod note. Jim passed away in early 2022, his contributions to this forum are immortal, and he is missed. RIP

thanks for that....handling matters more than looks- to me anyway. I'll probably just order a set of wheels with the new snow tires.
