instant "dead battery" symptom/sound

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

instant "dead battery" symptom/sound

Post by cwm921 »

1999 S80 T6
136K miles
new battery / rebuilt alt. (@ dealer) / Ouch!
Every 2 wks. my son's car will, out of nowhere, not start. Yesterday, I ran some errands @ 3 stores. After 3rd stop, car won't start. Turn key and all you hear is clicking sound. Elec. locks won't work, & lights are dim. Like I said, out of nowhere. Got a jump & car started. Checked voltage in engine bay @ term. next to booster and engine lift bracket. Meter reads 14.2-14.4V. Drove home and checked voltage again w'same results. I even checked voltage w/ground using 1 of 3 wires next to fuse box - driver's side fender. Son drove car to school, practice, and back home w'no issues. Any ideas?? Thanks!!

I though I read somewhere that this problem is the cable that runs from the rear to the starter. It seems to fail over time.
