Seat Leather on C70 Convertible

Post by timfoster »

Has anyone else had problems with the leather on their C70 seats?

I collected mine car in July 2004. Within three months the leather on the drives seat was wearing away where the backrest and seat join each other. I guess it's due to the fact that the backrest pulls forward to allow the kids in and out of the back seats.

I took it back and the leather was replaced. Three months later the problem was back. Again the dealer replaced it. Now it is happening a third time. The dealer is saying that this maybe down to normal 'wear and tear'.

What I need to know is has anyone else had similar problems with the leather on the seats of their C70?

I do not think Volvo leather is any better than average. But i don't think it is kids getting in and out. I think it is some repetitive rubbing you do when getting in or out or while drivng. That is the most common cause - as a practical matter pretty much the only cause.

I realise it's the fact that the two seat areas rub against each other, but surely it shouldn't wear so quickly should it? I've only had the car since 23rd July last year. It's been replaced twice and is ready to be replaced again. It seems to only last 3 months. I can't believe I'm the only one that uses the back seats of my car so much that this becomes an issue.

What I'm really looking for is confirmation that this is a problem, rather than 'general wear and tear' as Volvo would like it to be.

It'd be nice if I could pin it on the kids, but they're having none of it
