Brake pad clips

Post by simtech2 »

Hello,

Ive been reading through the forum for a couple days and thought I join today. I have a 2006 xc90 and we love it! I am going to change the brake pads, cabin filter, plugs, and fuel door hinge this weekend. However I noticed the pads had clips on them. I thought I read on here, but cant find it now, that they do need to be removed. The are not oem and I got them from ipd. My question is if they are to be removed how do you do it? Cutting them off looks next to impossible and grinding them off looks as though it would take forever and a day. Thanks for your time!

Check out this PDF (https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... hp?id=4183), you will see how to remove it. It takes some persistance, but they do come out, and you should be able to reuse them. Take your time, these clips are $32 bucks a piece from the stealership.

If that does not help, let me know, I can take a video of me removing mine.

Yeah Ive seen that and it is really informative. However the pads themselves have clips on them and from all the pictures Ive seen they are no on the pads. So i was wondering if I have to cut them off or do they in fact stay on and Ive seen misleading pics?

Can you post a photo of what you are talking about?

Nevermind I see what it is. The rear brake pads have clips on the back side to snap into the piston area and the outside side pads have no clips. Well on the front pads they all have clips but the pads for the outside has smaller clips. Ill be doing it in the morning and take pics.

I also had this pinned, though I don't see it at the top of the XC90 forum like usual. Here is my write up, I think I addressed the clips as well.

05 XC90 2.5T FWD TiBlak 97K
