V70 2003 broken hose fitting to rear windshield washer.

Post by npsrangerman »

I was trying to remove the hose from the plastic valve fitting on the inside (back) of the rear window windshield wiper/spray assembly and it snapped off. This occurred while trouble shooting the loss of fluid to the rear windshield washer spray nozzle. I had taken the plastic housings off to trouble shoot all of this. When i removed the hose from the hose coupling (splicer fitting) and tried to blow the water thru the hose out the nozzle it was stopped up.

I live in Montana and we have had some below zero weather though the V70 is garaged in an unheated garage. The garage is usually above zero though it may not be outside. Anyway, I was concerned that the nozzle was either frozen or corroded and plugged. Now i will need to replace the fitting and perhaps the nozzle assembly? the wiper works.

So what parts should I order / replace. What source? Volvo or after market.

By the way plastics get brittle here in Montana also because the car is getting old. It would be nice to order a supply of the little yellow connectors that fit onto these vinyl pannels. A couple of them are broken as well.

Thanks.

NPSRangerman.

PS: once the hose was unplugged the rear washer hose still did not produce fluid when activated, though the headlights did as well as the front windshield. So I still have not solved the problem of the rear window washer not working.

I'm not sure of what parts you need for nozzle but the problem with washers is likely the check valve in the hose. I believe the CV is in the roof just before hose goes up through hinge and into tailgate. Volvo uses these check valves to hold fluid in lines so it doesn't drain down and require several seconds of dry wiping before washer fluid begins to squirt. The problem is the CV's get stuck closed with dried up washer solvent. I have never been able to clear one with air or water so I replace or use a wire butt connector as a splice and remove it.

THANKS,

Actually, once i broke the tube off of the plastic fitting on the rear of the wiper apparatus, i could blow air thru the line without difficulty, leading me to believe that the check valve was ok and that it must be in the nozzle itself. Of course, now that I've broken that little plastic connector at the wiper assembly, i'm gonna have to replace it. I could not exactly tell from a diagram of the rear wiper assembly which piece i need and or if it is available. this drawing was from a 2001 not a 2003 V70
