Accuracy of built-in Boost Gauge.

How to go faster, stop quicker, and turn harder. Chips, exhaust, larger turbos, bigger/slotted/drilled rotors, high performance brake pads, manual boost controllers, performance shocks/struts/springs, airbox mods and more! Also discussion on HID and Xenon lights, aftermarket foglights and other exterior lighting.

Accuracy of built-in Boost Gauge.

Post by M Jarve »

I am curious as to how accurate the Turbo Boost gauge in the dash is. I have a 1991 940 Turbo with Mitsubishi TD04 turbo, and under maximum acceleration, the gauge seems to peak out at about the center of the white area. That is not to say that there is not enough boost or power, only that the gauge does not seem to reflect it.

I have gone through the entire vacuum system and found no leaks, and the turbo itself was replaced last fall with a rebuilt unit seems to be in perfect health; absolutely no shaft play (lateral or longitudinal), and it spins very freely. Could a overly-conservitive wastegate adjust be to blame and it really is only giving half-boost? I am not sure how it came set up- I merely popped it in when I got it.

Again, there seems to be no lack of power.

Thanks for any info.
/Mike
