Hi, I just bought a volvo xc90 D5 2004 (not T6) and so far everything is going great but reading some of the transmission problem I really got a bit nervous and well my question is if all models of volvo xc90 suffer from the same problem.

Not to my knowlege. The T5 came with the Aisin-Warner (AW) tranny. It was the T6 mounted to the GM transmission that caused the most issues. Yours should have the AW transmission, and as long as it was maintained you should be ok. I would take some time and check its fluid it might be time for a fluid flush.
As a side note, I have over 140k on my 04 XC90 T5 with the AW tranny, and its still as smooth as silk
