What type of bolt it is???

Post by velora »

HI, I'm doing head gasket job on my friends 2000 S40. There is odd shaped bolts that secure sprocket to VVT unit on exhaust cam. I've never saw bolts with head like this and curious what kind of socket required to install them??? This is not Torx for sure, the Torx Plus looks a little different as well. I went to local NAPA and Oreilly and nobody saw thewe as well. I pulled one with some good pliers to get a picture. Maybe someone knows???

They are anti-tamper heads since those do not need to be loosened on that type CVVT unit for setup. Replace them with grade 10.8 metric fasteners available at a good auto supply store.

The setup requiring gear rotation relative to cvvt unit is not needed on the vane style unit on that motor. You leave TX55 loose and install belt with markings on gear and plastic top cover aligned and after the belt is tightened you torque the TX55 to 89 ft-lb and then install plug and torque it to 35 ft-lb.

Of course these are done with crank in correct position and cams locked via tool on rear of cams.
