Can spark plugs socket be used to thread the new spark lugs?

Post by diyer97 »

I'm planning to replace the spark plugs on my volvo but procedures from Autozone did not recommend
using spark plugs socket. Why and what options do I have?
Thanks,
Ken

You can do that as the wells on these cars are rather deep and you can't really reach them any other way; just make absolute sure you haven't started to cross-thread them before you begin to tighten them down.

Put a small bit of anti-seize on the plugs before you begin to thread them into the engine.

On 4-cylinder engines and the like where the plugs are on the side of the motor, I usually start the plugs off with my fingers as you can feel better that way if it starts to thread in the wrong way.

To get the new spark plugs started correctly get yourself a 6 inch length of 3/8" hose to put over the end of the plug. The just turn the hose with your fingers to start the plug in the hole. Don't try to start the plug with a socket.
