Fuel guage on 89 240DL stopped working

I was driving along the other day and the fuel guage suddenly dropped to the bottom like a stone. Is there any simple sollutions to check before taking it to the garage for inspection. eg, fuse, wiring connection, ground. I really dont want to replace a fuel pump today:( Other than that the car runs fine....except for the constant tail light not working thing:)

Did you ever get any info on fuel guage? I have same problem on '87 740 GLE Wagon. Would appreciate hints. Thanks. [email protected]

locate the sender wire at the fuel pump connector and ground it , the gauge should peg out all the way , if it dossnt the gauge is faulty .if it does peg out either the wires or the sender is at fault

I have a 94 940 Station Wagon and both my temp guage and fule guage work intermittantly and often come back on if I tap the plastic almost like something is just loose in there?
