2001 S60 thump on start and shutdown

Have 2001 S60 with Base 2.4 motor(nonturbo) and only 33K miles. When starting the engine and shutting it off there is a noticeable thump. Just got the car and replaced the top torque stabilizer bushing. No change in noise. No vibration when running. Are these 5 cylinder motors just noisy when starting and stopping?

Your bottom mount (lower right of car) may be prematurely bad.
When you change one and don't check the other, all the movement travels to the weakest mount,
ie: the oldest, and if that's also bad you can/will hear some noises
To answer your question...NO it should not "thump"
You also have a rear tranny mount to check but at your miles I doubt that is bad.
Something is broken that shouldn't be at 33K miles

At 33K miles it should be quiet as a mouse and NO thumps!

I would check all the mounts, it sounds like a least one of them is bad. Just because the car only has 33K on it, it is 10 years old so age is a much bigger factor here.
