Two issues;
1. My 2000 V70 has a consistent ETS light and inconsistent Check Engine light. No issues starting, at idle or driving except for a slight engine surge when I ease up on the pedal or go up a hill. Wife just drove it 700+ miles to visit friends and got around 30MPG. I've read Don's ETM blog - Is this car headed for imminent ETM failure? I bought the car 2 months ago with 105K on it.
2. Ignition key is now sticking in the ignition and I can't get it out when I park the car. I come back after a short while, turn key back and forth and now the key comes out fine. Somewhat annoying problem.
Thanks for your great forum - very helpful information.

The ETM's just plain die. That's really all there is to that. Poor design.
You can prolong it's pain with some workarounds, but it will die.
The smart money is on a XeMODex upgrade. It's probably tripping other
codes, too. I'd go after the ETM fix first and see what you get.
As for the key, there are several things that can hang you up besides the ignition lock itself.
You may have a sticky shift interlock button. They collect crud...Be sure it's pulled all the way up.
But since your problem is intermittent, the cable that runs between the shifter and the ignition lock
may need minor adjustment. At this age, a stretched cable may just need a little tightening tweak.
The adjustment is at the shifter end of the cable and it's pretty easy to make. Pull the console and
look for the cable. It's easy to spot.
