Used 850 oil leaking
Hey everybody just bought this 95 model 850 N/A for a steal. There is a large amount of oil residue on what i thought of as the valve cover in my pre volvo days. Could any one tell me what this comes from and if it is the cam seal how hard is it to replace and is there a good tutorial that you know of? Thanks for any help any of you can give.

Its likely you need to replace your PCV system. If you still have the flame trap, that needs to be tossed as well. While you're at it, replace the cam seals (not terribly difficult or time consuming), and the gasket for your oil cap.

+1; see this and CN90's post below mine for the specifics on a non-turbo motor.

I’m with Alecw81. I would give the area a good clean up as you won't know where the oil is coming from unless it’s clear in there! Take off the spark plug cover and see how much oil is under there (I’m thinking quite a bit). See the replacing of the PCV system on this site as i can almost guarantee it will need doing. I haven't done a cam seal but they are a weak point and if you search this site there is a good write up. Replace the oil cap gasket i did mine recently,it was solid and came off in bits!

I had purchased a new oil cap from auto zone, it seemed to fit and seal well, but still leaked.
So I bit the bullet and bought a new one at the dealership... $15 but fits very snug and hasn't leaked a drop.

You needed to just buy the rubber gasket under the oil cap. Bad dealer, should've told you that.
