Hi, I recently got a 2001 V70 T5-M that has a little lifter noise for about 1 second, if the car sits overnight. My 98 S70 T5 is quiet upon start up and idle...
Is my 2001 T5 model more prone to lifter noise at start up compared to my 98 T5? Both cars are about 100,000 miles. The lifters are fine after the inital start up. Thanks Rob
First start lifter noise

What weight oil are you running in the '01?

I bought it with a fresh 5-30 oil change, ran it for about 1,000 miles and changed it to 10-30 with slightly better results. Both oils were standard Pennzoil dino.

2000 and later have solid tappets. No hydraulic lifters to make noise. It could need a valve adjustment. The adjustment method is measurement and selection of correct dimension tappets.
It is not unusual for noise until engine warms up as exhaust runs a wider clearance to allow for stem growth which occurs on the hotter exhaust valves.

Thanks, I was not sure if I'm having the beginning of o-ring problems in my oil pan allowing the system to bleed down. My oil light goes out right away..hot or cold. Doy you only worry about the oil pan o-rings until the oil light flickers?

Usually failed o rings in oil pan will have oil light flickering on hot engine. The oil light will flicker when cooling fan comes on or any other load that momentarily dips engine speed a little.

Thanks, I really love the wagon and want to make sure the noise was normal. With 98,000 miles, the timing belt and pcv system are getting done real soon. Thanks again, Rob
