940 air temp sensor

Post by gomocs »

I own a 95' 940 non-turbo that has been running rough at idle, low hp, just sounds bad almost like puttering, and would occasionally die at stops.

I replaced Battery and Alternator (got 230,000miles out of alt.) month ago,air filter, and fuel filter a year ago.

A couple of months ago I got error codes 2-1-2 (o2 sensor), 1-2-2(air temp sensor), and 1-1-3 (fuel injector) if I have the codes correct.

The car uses the pulsar valves, one was bad- went to a garage that restores Volvos for a used part- He told me just to plug them up. At $340 EACH from the dealer I didn't argue.

I replaced the original o2 sensor and that got rid of the 2-1-2 code.

I then checked for vacuum leaks, flame trap hose was in bad shape even though I replaced it a year ago, and one cracked hose on the throttle body. This helped the car somewhat.

Cleaned the throttle body which made little difference.

The 1-2-2, air temperature sensor, I cannot find for the life of me. Even the parts guy at the dealership could not pin point its exact location. I noticed several other postings with a similar question but with no clear response. I thought maybe I might have some luck.

The car has started sputtering as it slows to a stop. I also hear a rattle under the car from time-to-time as well....catalytic converter gone bad?

Any guidance would be GREATLY appreciated!!!
Todd

1-2-2 is a Regina code. If the signal from the air temp sensor is too high or too low the car goes into limp home mode. The sensor is in the big hose coming from the air filter, part #19 in the attached.

Check the contacts in the connector for oxidation and clean them if necessary.
