So I've decided to start tackling the rust on my 74 144 (i know this is the 240 forum) an I have a few questions and pictures. Basically the passenger side is really bad. The base of both doors are rusted thru and there is significant rust on door sills as well. The rearend is good save the area just below the pass tail light (pictured). Question 1: what is the best/cheapest way to stop the current rust and prevent it from reforming? Product? I am a noob when it comes to bodywork but I am not going to spend a bunch of money on a paint job so I want to do most of it myself.
Question 2: I know that 240 and 140 doors are the same save for the latch placement, so should I just buy two rust free doors and fit them to my 140 if I am going to paint it anyway? I cant weld so I am kind of scared of trying to rework 240 doors.
I got some rust! What should I use?

Suggest you grab camera and look under the chassis. How much rust is there. Also, look under the carpet inside the cabin. You may be surprised as the photos you sent may just be the tip of the ice berg. I have spent a whole year looking for another 740 that was not rusted or so badly abused you don't know where to get started. To answer your question, get replacement doors if you can find them for reasonable cost.

Here is one solution of many.....Go to the hardware store and pick up " Navel Jelly " follow instructions carefully, it's about 10$ for a bottle. This will stop and prevent additional rust and gives you a paint-able surface. Fill in the rest with automotive" Bondo" By the way you could use a thin cardboard piece like from a note book to place behind the hole in the door and don't over load when you apply as it dries fast!

I can get a rear pass door for 35 bucks at the local pickapart so I'll prob do that. I'll try to patch the front one since it only has a few pin holes.
Thanks for the responses!
