Rear brake nightmare
Rear brake nightmare
Hi i'm in the middle of changing my rear discs/rotors and can not pull the old discs off as the handbrake shoes are stuck,i have released the handbrake and that should have freed the discs enough to remove them, however they are not coming off, do i have to wind the shoes back, and if so where is the adjustment made ,i've been working on it all day and it,s driving me mad,i should of had this done hours ago,i must say, something sounds like it is rubbing maybe a spring has come off or broken causing the shoes to rub on the discs, any input would be great because i'm about to loose the plot

Use a flashlight and flat screwdriver.
The adjuster sits roughly at 12 o'clock position.
If the adjuster is still stock, then:
- UPWARD ---> Tightening the Shoes
- DOWNWARD ---> Loosening the Shoes.
BTW, while there, you should replace the Brake Shoes too.

Thanks the old discs had a lip on them ,that is what was catching.I have put new shoes on now, only mine fit top and bottom not left and right and there is no adjustment from inside the drum, all the adjustment is done on the handbrake cable inside the car.I have only done one side so far,but now i know where everything is it should be a lot easier diong the other side. When i do the other side i will post pictures as i run through the job.

If you are re-using the brake disk, sand or grind that lip out of the e-brake drum area before reassembly, and it'll be much easier to assemble. You'll also have a much easier time disassembling again in the future.
