Need some advise from the S40T enthusiest out there, as I'm stuck in a situtation with a friends S40T. Here's what happened, 6 months back my friend bought the S40T test-car from a Volvo authorised dealer. The car was manufactured end Dec 2003 and was used as a test-car by the authorised dealer and when it was sold to my friend it had only 15,000Km plus on the clock.
To cut the story short, on a fine sunday morning (sometime end Feb 05')my friend was taking the car out for a drive and the steering wheel locked up on him, while he was taking a easy right bend going up a slop at 60-75Km/h. He could not counter-steer back his steering and when he applied his brakes, his car skidded sideways and ended up on the curb and hitting a lamp post in the processes.
When the car was send to the Volvo authorised dealer, they could not find any thing wrong with the SRS Module report - which was decoded by Volvo Sweden and by our local Volvo Authorised dealer (Twice) - Malaysia, as they could not provide us with a reasonable explanation on what actually made the car to act in such a manner causing it to steering wheel to lock up in the first place and the cars ABS and EBD for not functioning? Know for a fact that steering-lock would only occur if the engine was to seize/ power cut-off. But in my friends case, the car engine was still ideling after the accident.
Could anyone out there please advise me if they have experience this steering lock problem or something familiar? Cause right now, my friend has totally lost faith in his 2 months old car, as Volvo could not provide him with a reasonable explanation on what actually made the car act that way to have caused the accident. Now Volvo authorised dealers are asking him to just fix the car, as the SRS module does not show any faults. But mechanically could there be any problems with the 2003 S40T steering or electronic system? Now the car is sitting in the Volvo's yard the past 2 months. Hope to hear some advise or suggestions from you guys out there!! Thanks in advance.
