heater blower just wont stop! at all

Post by teamSFWC »

1997 850 T-5 wagon. ECC system. I think the problem started due to a bad blower motor, she replaced the resistor pack first. then the blower motor a few weeks later. now I have put 2 diffrent ECC units in one from my working 95 t5 ecc system and it still wont stop. it goes all the time I have just removed the glove box and unplug the blower to make it stop. key out engine off this thing blows. even with the resistor unhooked it blows. I have also cleaned the dampers, and fixed the floor one with info on a diffrent post. I have cleaned the air temp sensors as well. I hope this is just something simple and I am just to flustered to see it!!

bad ground?

You must have a short to ground somewhere. The + voltage is always there (even key off) and the blower speed is controlled through the power stage (aka the blower resistor).

Which connector did you unplug from the power stage? The connector with the two large wires should turn it off in the absence of an actual short in the harness. If you unplugged the connector with the smaller wires it really won't make any difference if the power stage is shorted out.

I have unplugged both of the connectors.. found a wire diagram on here but for some reason wont download. Short of testing individule wires at the ecc I have done most everything I can think of. Guess it is just a matter of identifying the faulty short to ground. I have an factory service manuel for 95 850, thinking all the wires should be the same. I love these cars and have never had a problem I couldnt figure out easily! I sold her this car and the heat broke like 2 weeks later..

The wire colors should be the same as is shown in the '95 manual on the '97 if they haven't been spliced at some point.
