Camshaft timing

Post by yachtech »

I have a 2001 V70 T5 2.3 liter the timing belt broke at an idle and I am trying to find the timing marks on the camshaft gears. There is one on the intake gear but I can not find any marks on the exhaust side. Does anyone know where this mark is supposed to be?

Also I found on either pulley an "M" stamped in the casting. Is this of any importance?

Are there ANY scribes on the exhaust cam gear? My own 99 V70 (non VVT) has marks which are at top (zero degrees)

This makes it very interesting!!

I found a nearly microscopic scribe on the exaust cam gear, align everything and checked rotation. It will start and run for a very short time and then nothing. I must taken out some valves when the belt brok or I doing the timing wrong. Bummer!
