my wifes 2000 v70 has a hard start long crank issue
It had this issue since before the head gasket
It almost always does this but some times starts right up, some one told me they think its fuel pump but i turn ket to on and off several times and hear the pump prime and it still hard starts. I was wondering if it could possibly be bad plug boots on the coils or somthing else I'm missing.
No codes and im not sure what to look at The plugs are ngk iriduims, The originals were bosch platnuims.

Like the first response always is - even if the check engine light isn't on, have codes checked anyways.
Even if you hear the fuel pump running, that doesn't mean it's developing, and HOLDING, the correct pressure. The only way to know for sure is to test the pressure. I once had an S10 Blazer that was a bear to start, ran like crap, and had little power, despite having the big 4.3L V6 in it. After going through the normal tune up stuff, and compression checks (and assuming the fuel pump was OK because I was getting some pressure at the fuel rail), I finally checked the fuel pressure. Turned out that I was only getting 3-4 psi, when I should have had 15psi (throttle body injection). I was amazed the truck ran at all. Swapped out the pump, and it ran great after.
In your case, however, I don't think it's fuel pressure, especially if it's running OK after it starts. If it's running OK after start, I would also normally rule out the electrical stuff as well (not to say it couldn't stand to get replaced, I just don't think it's directly related to your problem).
If I was to wager a guess, just based on what you've said so far, my money would be on the coolant temp sensor going out, or corrosion on the connector.

You probably need an aftermarket check valve
this is pretty common with 2000s

Check the fuel pressure when you shut the engine off. If it drops directly to 0, it's definitely a check valve problem. Without it working properly, the fuel pressure takes a while to build up all the way to the engine bay again.

Do you ever smell gas after the car has been shut off for a few minutes? If so check for a leaky fuel pressure damper/regulator on the bottom of the injector rail. If it smells like gas then it may need to be replaced. This is like a ten minute fix on a 2000 model. I did it a few days ago.

ok well im finaly moved to my new home and have time to work on this
the car only has a code for small evap leak but This starting issue has been happening since before that code and i think it has to do with a loose or old hose from the head job . Im going to go throug all the hoses here real soon..
the coolant sensors new i did the unplug the maf test and the car instantly died when I unplugged it so unless i miss understood the other posts i read about the maf that means its good.
Fuel pressure is the next test

OK so after reading about small evap leaks on the forum I did some looking at the gas tank/ canister. The tank looks good and i see so signs of leaks. The small hose on the canister wont budge and feels smooth all around no signs of leaking the larger hose looks sound as well but has what feels like 1/4 inch play in and out.
Is this a possible failed oring ?
possible source of my evap leak ??

Yes
Google that part.
On Amazon for about $28
Mount it as close to the fuel tank as possible
