Timing belt interval on a 2000 S80
Anyone know when I need to change it. The car has 124,000 Km's on it. Is there any way to inspect it?

Do you know if it has been changed at all? Inspection wont tell you a lot to be perfectly honest. Change the belt, water pump and pulleys. Unless you're a gambling man\woman. Even if the miles are low, if the original belt is in there its due to be changed on age anyway.

Your manual, sir: https://www.customers.volvocars.com/own ... s80_00.htm
Recommended is 168000km or 10 years. I'd say it's time. It's highly recommended that idler and tensioner pulleys be replaced at this time. Water pumps can often be changed at twice the mileage.
I bought the complete timing kit including cam seals and water pump knowing I'll need them some day.

To ed7 - Is the manual you link to above the same as for the 1999 S80 T6? If not, can you provide a link to the correct manual please? I am just contemplating buying one and am expecting some head scratching (warning lights, error messages etc.) and any help from these forums would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Duncan

I have an '03 S80 with 56K (we don't go much of anyplace but the airport) .Great car, only repair so far is F brakes and tires. Today the garage told me that the timing belt is shredding, so it, water pump, etc have to be replaced. I really trust this garage, but I'm over 60, and have never had to replace a timing belt in all those years. I have always been aware of the possibility of having to do it-after 100K. Is this an anomaly,a regular issue with this vehicle, or the age. Any feedback would be appreciated.
After warranty time expired, vehicle has never been serviced by dealer except for recall. GaRage that has serviced is very highly rated in the Cincinnati area by NPR, etc
