can 95 850 T5R replace to 99 70-series transmission?

Post by csller »

I have a 95 Volvo 850 T5R, it is a fun car to drive. However, recently the auto transmission has slipped on 1-2 gears with the check engine and arrow light on. So I bought a 99 S70 T5 auto transmission to replace on my T5R. Before install, I found out there are 2 extra sensor wires on the S70 transmission which the T5R transmission doesn

They are both the Aisin Warner 50-42 transmission and as long as the mechanical bits work out, you shouldn't have a problem, but DO make sure that you're using either the Volvo specific fluid or the Mobil 3309 unless you want another dead transmission on your hands. The TCU from the T5-R isn't going to look for the signal from whatever the unhooked sensors are on the '99 tranny, so you should be fine. You will however need to make sure that a speed sensor is hooked up somewhere, otherwise, things won't work right.

so what should I do with the 2 sensors, just keep them unplug?
and I am sure the speed sensor of T5R is connecting to the transaxle, not to the transmission, so I can just don't worry one of the sensors?
