Is it worth it?

Post by Mrkrinkle »

Hello. Just looking for some opinions.... I have an '89 240 DL with non working power steering, a bad overdrive switch, needs new tires and front-end alignment, a trans and oil leak, and a bad tail light (not just the bulb). Do you think it's worth it to try and get all that fixed, or should I just go for another car?
If your answer is yes, roughly how much do you think it will cost to get fixed?
Thanks

It depends. If you do all the work yourself (which I presume you would) you might be able to get by with shelling out about $200-$500 in parts (less if you go to a junk yard). You may also want to factor in what your time is worth too.

Electrical problems (OD switch/relay, brake lights) are usually the most difficult to repair, because your always hunting down bad grounds or wires.

If the car is in otherwise very good or excellent shape, go for it. If it is fairly rusty, and seems to have cascading problems, look for another, and keep this as a "parts" car.
